One of my favorite things to do with my friends in Germany is to meet for Brunch on Sundays. I like the whole relaxed atmosphere during brunch. It’s like having all of my friends at my place, but with lots of delicious food already prepared for us. We usually go to restaurants that offer a buffet, because then there is enough choice for everybody.
I started going to Brunch with my friend while I was living in Berlin, as a way to get to know new parts of the city. When I moved to Hamburg I started organizing my colleagues, as a way to hang out together outside of work. Now, after 5 years most of them are working at different firms, but Sunday Brunch is still a great opportunity for us to meet every couple of months and to stay in touch.
In the last 5 years I’ve discovered a lot of great places in Hamburg for Sunday brunch. I would like to share these places with you, by writing one restaurant suggestion at least once a month. I am not a food expert and my goal is not to evaluate the restaurants. Instead I will only write about restaurants when I have something positive to say. My goal is to create a list of suggestions for anybody who needs an idea where to go for Brunch.
One of my favorite places for Brunch is the Einstein Bistro. It is a chain of very nice cafés/restaurants situated all over Hamburg. My friends and I usually go to the one in Hoheluft, but 2 weeks ago I was with my family at the one in Wandsbek and we received the same lovely service and delicious food as we always get at the restaurant in Hoheluft.
Brunch costs 13,90€, for children up to 6 years is free and for children between ages 6 and 16 costs 6,95€. I like the fact that in that price is not only buffet included, but also juice, water, filter coffee and tea. The food is very tasty and the selection is quite big, from breakfast food, like cheese, ham, eggs, bacon, to more typical food for lunch, like soup, warm dishes with meat and fish, baked vegetables, different salads and several different types of desserts. The only difference that I noticed between the two restaurants was that in Hoheluft there is the extra option to make your own waffles, which is why I will probably go more often to that restaurant.
The people working in both restaurants are very friendly. I liked that they try to take away the empty plates as often as possible, because in some restaurants that is not the case and after a while you have a table full with plates, which makes the whole experience quite unpleasant.
The atmosphere is also very nice in both restaurants. There are always a lot of people, but it is not so crowded to be stressful. I do suggest, that you call at least one week in advance to reserve a table. Just to be sure that you get a table, especially when you go with a big group of people like I do.
How about you? Do you like going to Brunch on Sundays? I would love to hear your suggestions and experiences.
