Crêpes in Hamburg: Ti Breizh

My favorite food are the French pancakes – crêpes. So it should be no surprise that my favorite restaurant in Hamburg is a Breton restaurant specialized in crêpes. The restaurant is called Ti Breizh and I use every occasion possible to go there. My husband and I go there when we have something to celebrate, when we have friends over for a visit, or simply when we are in the area.

For all of you who are new in the city, going to the restaurant is also a great opportunity to see the street with the last row of carefully restored early 18th-century houses in Hamburg called Deichstraße.

On one side of the houses is the cobblestone street and on the other the Nikolaifleet Canal.

The Crêperie Ti Breizh is inside an old merchant's house built in the year 1700 with a view at the Nikolaifleet Canal. Inside you will find a spacious room with very high ceiling and tables on two floors. The paintings that are displayed on the walls are always from different artists. They change the exhibitions every couple of months. You can see some of the paintings as well as information about the painters in the gallery on the web site of the restaurant. Unfortunately their web site is only in German and in French but that is why we have Google Translate, right?

The Crêperie offers a big selection of salty crunchy pancakes made with buckwheat flour called Galettes. My favorite is the one with goat cheese, serrano ham, salad and walnuts. Mhhmmm, I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

And for those looking for the more well-known French wheat flour pancakes (crêpes) with sweet toppings, there are a lot of options, from the simpler ones with lemon and sugar or with Nutella, to the ones with several toppings like my favorite with hot cherries, vanilla ice scream and dark chocolate sauce.
